ISFTA scientific personnel consists of 38 scientists in the following fields:

• 11 chemical engineers (of which 1 PhD, 6 MSc)
• 13 mechanical engineers (of which 6 PhD, 2 MSc)
• 2 geologists (of which 1 PhD, 1 MSc)
• 1 chemist (MSc)
• 1 oil engineer
• 1 economist-administration
• 2 administration persons
• 1 electrical engineer & computer engineer
• 2 eng. & manager of energy resources
• 1 mining & metallurgical engineer
• 1 environmental engineer (MSc)
• 1 technologist mechanical engineer
• 1 agriculturist (MSc)

Since 1999, Prof. Emmanouil Kakaras is the Director of ISFTA and Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical National University of Athens - NTUA). Dr Nikolaos Koukouzas (Director of Research) is the Deputy Director of the Institute.
